Shedding Light on Men's Mental Health: A Collaboration Between Conwy Mind and Kinmel Bay FC
Yoke were honoured to be asked back to make another important film for charity ‘Mind Conwy’. Following our short film we made for them in Summer 2023, which was a film to generate awareness about Conwy Mind and the many crucial services they provide across the county of Conwy in North Wales. This film equally as important, focuses in on raising awareness about mens mental health in particular.
In recent years, conversations surrounding mental health have gained momentum, yet there remains a crucial gap in addressing the specific needs of men. With statistics revealing that 76% of suicides in Wales are men, it's evident that there's an urgent need for initiatives focused on men's mental well-being. Recognising this, Conwy Mind, in collaboration with Kinmel Bay FC, has embarked on a mission to challenge stereotypes and encourage open dialogue about men's mental health.
The filming took place down at Kimmel Bay FC’s training ground. After two failed attempts of filming, due to a storm the first evening we booked in, then snow forcing the cancelation of the second, surly it had to be third time lucky! Yoke had a 3 hour window to capture all we needed to make the short film, which was challenging but we feel added to the sense of urgency. The team at Conwy Mind had outlined a script to be read by the guys at their training session, which would get across the vital message. Yoke had used this to make a storyboard which aimed to make the words come to life. But like with any filming, you can plan as much as possible, but you also need everyone to be working together on the night, and be ‘singing from the same hym sheet’. Let’s just say that everyone involved did not disappoint! The guys at the club were incredible - they all got over their nerves, delivered their lines with honesty and got the message across with the passion needed.
The powerful partnership between Conwy Mind and Kinmel Bay FC demonstrates a commitment to encouraging a supportive environment where men feel empowered to confront their mental health challenges. The initiative aims to reach men in a space where they feel comfortable and understood. The filming session showcased the dedication and enthusiasm of everyone involved, from the players and coaches to the crew behind the camera. It's evident that there's a collective commitment to amplifying the conversation around men's mental health and encouraging a culture of openness and support within the community.
Through the power of storytelling and collaboration, we have the opportunity to create meaningful change and ensure that no man feels alone in his struggles with mental health.
